Doorways are interesting - they are generally considered desirable architectural features, necessary to mark the entrance of a building or create a sense of smaller scale when approaching a massive structure. But we don't often think of alternative perceptions and uses people may have for them as we design them. I think a building has more meaning when it is really used and inhabited, rather than covered with symbolic elements that are supposed to be there but evoke few personal feelings.
I really like the area that you chose and the times that chose to go observe it. The contrast of night time and church on the following morning explain the dynamics of any single place at any time. Making it so dramatic is really cool too. Sorry that last sentence is so lame but I'm not much of a writer.
